Atualmente possui os cargos de John A. Hannah Distinguished Professor do Center for Global Change and Earth Observations (CGCEO), Dept. of Geography - Michigan State University (MSU), Professor Visitante do Núcleo de Estudos e Pesquisas Ambientais - Universidade Estadual de Campinas (NEPAM/UNICAMP) e Distinguished Professor and Rudy Professor Emeritus of Anthropology - Indiana University (IU). De 1992 a 2012 foi diretor do Anthtopological Center for Training and Research on Global Enviromental Change - Indiana University. Tem experiência na área de Antropologia e Geografia. Trabalha com os temas: ecologia humana, mudanças climáticas, ciências sociais ambientais.
