Biologist, with a master's degree in Virology and a PhD in Molecular Biology, both from the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP). He did two post-doctorates in Brazil, one at the Medical Schools (Cell Biology) and the other at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (Cell Biology and Cell Therapy) at the University of São Paulo. He did a sabbatical postdoctoral in Neuroscience at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at the University (ICB) of São Paulo and Principal Investigator at the Scientific Platform Pasteur-USP (SPPU), an international member of the Pasteur Institutes. As a line of research, he works investigating the mechanisms of genetic and infectious diseases that affect the CNS, using disease modeling from human iPSC cells, with the main targets of Autism and the Congenital Syndrome caused by the Zika virus. Among her projects at the Disease Modeling Laboratory of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at USP, Drª Patrícia is the creator and the responsible for the "A Fada do Dente Project", a Brazilian initiative that uses stem cells from the milk teeth of autistic children to study the mechanisms involved in Autism. His group was responsible for proving the causal relationship between Zika virus and microcephaly using brain organoids and animal models.
Bióloga, com mestrado em Virologia e doutorado em Biologia Molecular, ambas pela Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP). Fez dois pós-doutorados no Brasil, um na Faculdades de Medicina (Biologia Celular) e outro na Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária (Biologia Celular e Terapia Celular) da Universidade de São Paulo. Fez um pós-doutorado sabático em Neurociências na University of California San Diego (UCSD). Atualmente é Professora Associada do Departamento de Microbiologia do Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas da Universidade (ICB) de São Paulo e Pesquisadora da Plataforma Científica Pasteur-USP (SPPU), e membro do Comitê Internacional da Rede Internacional dos Institutos Pasteur. Como linha de pesquisa atua investigando os mecanismos de doenças genéticas e infecciosas que afetam o SNC, utilizando a modelagem de doenças a partir de células iPSC humanas, tendo como principais alvos o Autismo e a Síndrome Congênita causada pelo Zika vírus. Dentre seus projetos no Laboratório de Modelagem de Doenças do Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas da USP, Drª Patrícia é a criadora e a responsável pelo "Projeto A Fada do Dente", iniciativa brasileira que utiliza as células-tronco dos dentes de leite de crianças autistas para estudar os mecanismos envolvidos no Autismo. Seu grupo foi o responsável por provar a relação causal do Zika vírus com a microcefalia usando organóides cerebrais e modelos animais e por indicar a presença de neuroinflamação em Astrócitos de Autistas.
