Dr. Cury holds a Master and a Doctorate in Sciences (Pharmacology, 1982 and 1986, respectively), from the University of São Paulo, Brazil. Her thesis focused on the hormonal control of the inflammatory response. Dr. Cury has been a Senior Researcher at the Butantan Institute, São Paulo, Brazil, since 1987 and Direct0r of the Scientific Development Division of Butantan Institute from 12/2012-04/2017. She has been studying the inflammatory/antiinflamatory and nociceptive/antinociceptive effects of animal venoms and toxins for long, aiming (i) to characterize the mechanisms involved in inflammation and pain observed in human envenomations, (ii) to use these toxins as tools for the understanding of the pathophysiology of pain and inflammation and their control, and also as tools for the development of experimental models for the study of both phenomena, (iii) to use these toxins as models for the development/design of new drugs for the treatment of pain and inflammation. Dr. Cury activities emphasize basic research and development. She also provides supervision for undergraduated and graduated students. She has published book chapters, review articles and more than 60 articles in peer-reviewed journals. Other activities include: member of the Research Council of Butantan Institute (1995-1997; and then since the beginning of 2012), member of the Ethics Committee for the Use of Animals in Research, Butantan Institute (CEUAIB) (2004-2011), Toxicon?s Mini-review editor, Member of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Society on Toxinology (2009-2015), Councilor of the Brazilian Society on Toxinology (1999-2000; 2006-2009), Councilor of the Brazilian Society on Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (2005-2011), Member of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Society on Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (2012-2014), Councilor of the International Society on Toxinology (since 2009). Possui graduação em Ciências Biológicas Modalidade Médica pela Universidade de São Paulo (1978), Mestrado em Farmacologia pela Universidade de São Paulo (1982) e Dutorado em Farmacologia pela Universidade de São Paulo (1986). Atualmente é pesquisador científico VI do Instituto Butantan.
