Dr. Bertoluci is currently Associate Professor of Medicine at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), in Porto Alegre, Brazil since 1999. He is also a permanent Post-Graduate Medicine Professor at Post-GRaduate Program in Medical Sciences- (UFRGS) - Porto Alegre Brazil. He graduated in Medicine in 1983, and obtained the specialist title of Endocrinologist,MD in 1986. He complete his pHD in Clinical Medicine from PPG-CM at UFRGS in 1995.
Dr Bertoluci is currently the director of Cardiovascular Department of Brazilian Diabetes Society (SBD) and the Director of Department of Lipid Diseases of Brazilian Society of Endocrinollogy and Metabolism (SBEM).
He has coordinated 2 brazilian guidelines on prevention of diabetes complications along with SBD, SBEM and the brazilian Cardiology society (SBC) in 2014 and 2017. He is now the head of the ongoing 2019 Portuguese-Brazilian guidelines on management of hyperglycemia in type 2 diabetes, along with 4 societies including SBD, SBEM, SPD (Portuguese Society of Diabetes) and SPDEM (Portuguese Society of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism). Dr Bertoluci is currently the Editor in chief of Diabetology and Metabolic Syndrome. He also does research on basic and clinical investigation in diabetes. Current research Lines: Basic: Satiety mechanisms involved in weight gain and artificial sweeteners in animals Clinical: Mechanisms of vascular diseases in Diabetes.
