Bachelor in Biological Sciences from Gama Filho University (1980), Master in Phytopathology from the Institute of Biological Sciences of the University of Brasilia (1984) and PhD from the University of Nottingham (1990). Currently a Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. Permanent advisor of PPG Cellular and Molecular Biology (PPGBCM) at the Biotechnology Center where is a group leader. Experience in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics of microorganisms, working mainly in cellular and molecular biology of the mechanisms involved in the infection processes of an entomopathogen (Metarhizium anisopliae) and the human pathogens Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus gattii with a focus on assembly of polymicrobial communities and biofilms. Also worked as a project coordinator of the National Education and Science Network (RNEC) and in projects such as: biodiesel production through transesterification by lipases produced by microorganisms and bioremediation of hydrocarbon-contaminated areas. As a researcher at the UFRGS Biotechnology Center, coordinated the Business Incubator (IE-Cbiot), whose main mission is to stimulate the creation and strengthening of companies and technological projects in biotechnology and related areas. Also held the position of Director of the Biotechnology Center of UFRGS (10/2007-10/2010), as coordinator of the Graduate Program in Cellular and Molecular Biology (PPGBCM) of the Cbiot-UFRGS (2011/2013 - 2013/2015) and coordinator of the CNPq Advisory Committee on Microbiology and Parasitology (2014 - 2015).

Graduada em Ciências Biológicas pela Universidade Gama Filho (1980), mestre em Fitopatologia pelo Instituto de Ciências Biológicas da Universidade de Brasília (1984) e PhD pela Universidade de Nottingham (1990). Atualmente é Professora Titular do Departamento de Biologia Molecular e Biotecnologia da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Orientadora permanente do PPG Biologia Celular e Molecular (PPGBCM) do Centro de Biotecnologia onde é líder de grupo. Experiência em Microbiologia e em Genética Molecular e de Microrganismos, atuando principalmente em biologia celular e molecular dos mecanismos envolvidos nos processos de infecção de um entomopatógeno (Metarhizium anisopliae) e dos patógenos humanos Cryptococcus neoformans e Cryptococcus gattii com enfoque em montagem de comunidades polimicrobianas e biofilmes. Atuou como coordenadora de projetos junto à rede nacional de educação e ciência (RNEC) e em projetos como: produção de biodiesel através da transesterificação por lipases produzidas por microrganismos e biorremediaçào de áreas contaminadas por hidrocarbonetos. Como pesquisadora do Centro de Biotecnologia da UFRGS coordenou a Incubadora de Empresas (IE-CBiot) que tem como principal missão, estimular a criação e o fortalecimento de empresas e projetos tecnológicos em biotecnologia e em áreas afins. Ocupou o cargo de Diretora do Centro de Biotecnologia da UFRGS (10/2007-10/2010). Atuou como coordenadora do Programa de Pós-graduação em Biologia Celular e Molecular (PPGBCM) do CBiot-UFRGS (2011/2013 - 2013/2015) e coordenadora do Comitê assessor de Microbiologia e Parasitologia do CNPq (2014 - 2015).
