Lucas Pizzolatto Konsen

Lucas P. Konzen is a tenured, full-time associate professor in sociology of law at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), one of Brazil?s leading educational and research institutions, and lives and works in Porto Alegre, the capital city of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. He is a permanent faculty member of UFRGS' Postgraduate Program in Law (PPGDir-UFRGS), accredited for master?s thesis and PhD dissertation supervision. He is the principal investigator in research projects that are conducted by the Law and Society Research Group (GPDS), associated to UFRGS? Laboratory for Empirical Research in Law (LaPED). He has published more than three dozen works, including scientific articles and book chapters, in Brazil and abroad, in the field of sociology of law, on topics such as the foundations of socio-legal research, critical legal geography, urban public spaces, and urban conflicts. His PhD dissertation, an empirical investigation in cities of Brazil, Mexico, and Spain deeply influenced by the perspective of legal geography, was published as a book, under the title Norms and Space: Understanding Public Space Regulation in the Tourist City. He joined UFRGS Law School faculty in 2014, returning to his alma mater, where he earned his bachelor of law degree in 2006. He holds a master?s degree in law from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Brazil. While living overseas, he became very familiar with the theoretical ideas and research practices of the law and society movement. He was awarded a master?s degree in sociology of Law by the Oñati International Institute for the Sociology of Law (IISL), in the Basque Country, Spain, supported by the European Union Program of High-Level Scholarships for Latin America. He also followed the ?Renato Treves? International PhD Program in Law & Society, organized by a consortium of European universities, with the support of the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR) and the Swedish Institute (SI), and was awarded in 2013 a PhD in law and society degree by the University of Milan (UNIMI), Italy, in co-tutorship with Lund University (LU), Sweden. He has been developing teaching, research, and outreach activities with emphasis on the fields of sociology of law, urban law, urban sociology, urban policy, constitutional law, and administrative law. He is responsible for the undergraduate courses in Sociology of Law and Law and Urban Space and the graduate courses in Empirical Research in Law and Critical Legal Geography. He is the coordinator of the research projects Legal Geographies of the City: Empirical Studies on the Regulation of the Public Domain (funded by CNPq) and The Impact of Sociology of Law in Brazil: Between the Academic Field and the Legal Field (funded by FAPERGS). He also is co-coordinator of the research project The Law of Favelas in the Context of Land Regularization Policies (CNPq/MCTI/FNDCT Call nº 40/2022 ? Pro-Humanities). Also, he coordinates the public outreach initiatives Center for Innovative Legal and Social Practices (NPJSi) and Observatory of Land Regularization (ORFIS). He has held several positions at the Law School and the University administration. Currently he is the Director of UFRGS Law School Research and Professional Training Service (SPPP) (2021-2024), member of the Unit Council (2017-2024), and elected representative of the teaching staff at UFRGS? Higher Council for Education and Research (CEPE) (2022-2024). He was Director of Research at the Faculty of Law (COMPESQ) (2017-2020) and member of the UFRGS Chamber for Outreach Activities (CAMEXT) (2016-2020). He is a member of the Research Committee on the Sociology of Law (RCSL/ISA), the Law and Society Association (LSA), the Brazilian Network of Empirical Studies in Law (REED), the Brazilian Association of Researchers in the Sociology of Law (ABraSD) and the Brazilian Institute of Urban Law (IBDU). Professor de Sociologia do Direito da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Membro do corpo docente permanente do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Direito (PPGDir-UFRGS), credenciado para orientação de Mestrado e Doutorado. Líder do Grupo de Pesquisa Direito e Sociedade (GPDS), vinculado ao Laboratório de Pesquisa Empírica em Direito (LaPED-UFRGS). Doutor em Direito e Sociedade pela Universidade de Milão (UNIMI), Itália, em cotutela com a Universidade de Lund (LU), Suécia. Mestre em Sociologia do Direito pelo Instituto Internacional de Sociologia Jurídica de Oñati (IISL), Espanha. Mestre em Direito pela Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC). Bacharel em Ciências Jurídicas e Sociais pela UFRGS. Exerce desde 2014 o cargo de Professor da Carreira do Magistério Superior Federal, em regime de Dedicação Exclusiva, integrando o Departamento de Direito Público e Filosofia do Direito. Desenvolve atividades de ensino, pesquisa e extensão com ênfase nas áreas da sociologia do direito, direito urbanístico, sociologia urbana, política urbana, direito constitucional e direito administrativo. No ensino de graduação, é responsável pelas disciplinas de Sociologia do Direito, Introdução às Ciências Sociais, Direito e Espaço Urbano e Direito Municipal do Curso de Ciências Jurídicas e Sociais. Na pós-graduação stricto sensu, ministra as disciplinas Fundamentos da Investigação Científica: Pesquisa Empírica em Direito e Fundamentos Sociológicos da Experiência Jurídica: Geografia Jurídica Crítica. Integra o corpo docente dos Cursos de Especialização em Direito do Estado, Direito Internacional, Direito do Trabalho, Direito Ambiental e Direito Penal e Política Criminal. Na pesquisa, coordena o projeto Geografias Jurídicas da Cidade: Estudos Empíricos sobre a Regulação do Domínio Público (Chamada CNPq/MCTI/FNDCT Nº 18/2021 - Universal) e o projeto Os Impactos da Sociologia do Direito no Brasil: entre o Campo Acadêmico e o Campo Jurídico (Edital FAPERGS 07/2021 - Programa Pesquisador Gaúcho); e atua como coordenador adjunto do projeto O Direto das Favelas no Contexto das Políticas de Regularização Fundiária: Proposições Conceituais, Teóricas, Metodológicas e Políticas (Chamada CNPq/MCTI/FNDCT nº 40/2022 ? Pró-Humanidades). Na extensão, coordena o programa Núcleo de Práticas Jurídicas e Sociais Inovadoras (NPJSi) e o projeto Observatório da Regularização Fundiária de Interesse Social (ORFIS). Foi orientador-geral do Serviço de Assessoria Jurídica Universitária (SAJU) (2015-2016). Na gestão acadêmica, é Diretor do Serviço de Pesquisa e Preparação Profissional (SPPP) (2021-2024), integrante do Conselho da Unidade da Faculdade de Direito (2017-2024), membro do Núcleo Docente Estruturante (NDE) do Curso de Ciências Jurídicas e Sociais (2021-2024) e representante docente eleito no Conselho de Ensino, Pesquisa e Extensão (CEPE) da UFRGS (2022-2024). Foi coordenador da Comissão de Pesquisa da Faculdade de Direito (COMPESQ-DIR) (2017-2020) e membro da Câmara de Extensão da UFRGS (2016-2020). Integra associações científicas nacionais e internacionais, como o Comitê de Investigação em Sociologia do Direito (RCSL/ISA), a Associação Direito e Sociedade (LSA), a Rede de Estudos Empíricos em Direito (REED), a Associação Brasileira de Pesquisadores em Sociologia do Direito (ABraSD) e o Instituto Brasileiro de Direito Urbanístico (IBDU). Produziu mais de três dezenas de trabalhos publicados no Brasil e no exterior, entre artigos científicos e capítulos de livro, sobre temas como fundamentos da pesquisa sociojurídica, geografia jurídica crítica, regulação do espaço, espaços públicos e conflitos urbanos. É autor do livro Normas e Espaço: Compreendendo a Regulação do Espaço Público, publicado em inglês, em 2013, fruto de pesquisa empírica desenvolvida em cidades do Brasil, México e Espanha para a tese de doutorado..
