Thiago Pedro Mayer Alegre

Thiago Alegre is an Associate Professor in the Applied Physics Department at the Gleb Wataghin Institute of Physics (IFGW) from the University of Campinas (Unicamp). Since 2011 his research group is focused on classical and quantum interactions between light and acoustic waves in micro- and nanostructured devices. He is also Coordinator of the Undergraduate Committee at IFGW (2021) and was vice-Coordinator of the Undergraduate Committee at the same institution from 2019-2021. He was elected an affiliated member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences for the 2019-2024 term and has been a Member of the Editorial Advisory Board for APL Photonics (AIP) journal since 2019. Received his B.S. in Physics from Universidade Estadual de Campinas in 2003, and his Ph.D. degree in Physics from the same university in 2008. He was a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Applied Physics at Caltech, USA, from 2008 to 2011. Between 2014 and 2018 he also coordinated the LIEF, an outreach laboratory for science and education hosted at IFGW. He is also a member of the Brazilian Physical Society, the Brazilian Photonics Society and the Optical Society of America.

Thiago Alegre é professor doutor no Departamento de Física da Aplicada no Instituto de Física Gleb Wataghin da Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp) desde de 2011, aonde lidera um grupo de pesquisa sobre interações clássicas e quânticas entre luz e ondas acústicas em sistemas micro- e nano-estruturados. Atualmente é o Coordenador de Graduação do IFGW (2021) e anteriormente foi Coordenador Associado de Graduação da mesma instituição entre 2019-2021. Foi eleito membro afiliado da Academia Brasileira de Ciências para o mandato 2019-2024 e Membro do Conselho Consultivo Editorial da revista APL Photonics (AIP) desde 2019. Doutor em Ciências (2008) e Bacharel em Física pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2003), Pós-Doutor pelo California Institute of Technology (Caltech) (2011) e recebeu em 2020 o título de Livre Docência pela Unicamp. Entre 2014 e 2018 coordenou o LIEF laboratório de extensão voltado para divulgação e educação em ciência básica. É também membro da Sociedade Brasileira de Física, da Sociedade Brasileira de Fotônica e da Optical Society of America.
