Juliana Bello Baron Maurer

Graduated with a Degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Paraná (1990), master of Science (Biochemistry, Enzymology) by the Federal University of Paraná (1993), Doctorate in Sciences (Biochemistry, carbohydrate Chemistry) from the Federal University of Paraná (1999), and Post-doctorate in the areas of Botany, plant Physiology and Biochemistry, the University of Melbourne (School of Botany, Plant Cell Biology Research Centre), Australia (2005). She is currently a professor at the Federal University of Paraná. In research area, has expertise in structural and functional characterization of carbohydrates and arabinogalactan-proteins (AGPs). Currently, the main focus of research projects involves the chemical characterization and the investigation of the immunomodulatory activity against the human complement system of bioactive compounds (arabinogalactan-protein, pectins, and phenolic compounds) obtained from medicinal plants. Possui graduação em Licenciatura Em Ciências Biológicas pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (1990), mestrado em Ciências (Bioquímica, Enzimologia) pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (1993), doutorado em Ciências (Bioquímica, Química de glicideos) pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (1999), e Pós-doutorado na área de Bioquímica vegetal, pela University of Melbourne (School of Botany, Plant Cell Biology Research Centre), Austrália (2005). É professora titular da Universidade Federal do Paraná. Na área de pesquisa, tem experiência na caracterização estrutural e funcional de carboidratos e arabinogalactana-proteínas (AGPs). Atualmente, a principal linha de pesquisa envolve a caracterização química de compostos bioativos (arabinogalactana-proteinas, pectinas, compostos fenólicos) de plantas medicinais e a investigação da atividade imunomoduladora destes compostos sobre o sistema complemento humano.
