Guilherme Carlos Lassance dos Santos Abreu

Full professor and current Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (FAU-UFRJ). Permanent professor of the Postgraduate Program in Urbanism (PROURB-UFRJ). Holder of a CNPq Research Productivity Grant since 2016 and Faperj State Scientist Grant since 2021. He is director of UrCA (Urbanism, Criticism and Architecture) - a research group dedicated to the study of alternative approaches to the contemporary city, with a special focus on the peripheral urbanization of the Global South. He was Director of Undergraduate Education at FAU-UFRJ (2006-2010) and is a member of its Structuring Teachers Council since its creation. After being a fellow of the Capes/Fulbright Program and serving as a visiting professor at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) at Columbia University in New York (2013 to 2014), he was a fellow of the Visiting Teachers Program of the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London (2015) and then returned to the GSAPP as a visiting associate professor of Urban Design, in the Department of Urban Design (2015-2016). He has been invited as an advisor professor at the International Design Workshop at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture in Marseille, with annual participation since 2014. In 2017 he was selected as a professor of the Intensive Course at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture in Paris-Malaquais where he also works as a member of the Scientific Council of Laboratoire Infrastructure, Architecture et Territoire (LIAT) and co-supervises doctoral dissertations of Paris-Est University PhD candidates. In 2018 he was invited as a professor to evaluate the Final Projects of the Architecture Course at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) in Lima. More recently, he became a visiting professor of Theory and Practice of Architectural Design (Théories et Pratiques de la Conception Architecturale) at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture in Paris-Val de Seine (2020 and 2022). Among his publications, he co-edited the series Readings in Theory of Architecture (2009-2014) and is co-author of Metropolitan Rio: guide for an architecture (2013), both awarded in several national and international forums. As an architect and urban planner, he worked with Paul Chemetov and Borja Huidobro in Paris, Barto & Barto in Nantes and at the Groupe Cooperative Architecture in Toulouse, having been co-founder of Atelier Arquilab of FAU-UFRJ where he guides and develops projects of public interest since 2006. He obtained his DPLG architect diploma (Diplômé par le Gouvernement) at the Ecole d'Architecture of Toulouse (1992) and got his PhD in Architecture Sciences at the University of Nantes with the highest distinction (1998).

Professor permanente do Programa de Pós-graduação em Urbanismo (PROURB-UFRJ). Bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa do CNPq desde 2016. Cientista do Nosso Estado Faperj desde 2021. É diretor do UrCA (Urbanismo, Crítica e Arquitetura) - um grupo de pesquisa que se dedica ao estudo de abordagens alternativas para a cidade contemporânea, com foco especial na urbanização periférica do Sul Global. Foi Diretor Adjunto de Ensino de Graduação da FAU-UFRJ (2006-2010) e é membro do seu Núcleo Docente Estruturante desde sua criação. Depois de ser bolsista do Programa Capes/Fulbright e atuar como professor visitante na Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) da Universidade de Columbia em Nova York (2013 a 2014), foi bolsista do Programa Visiting Teachers da Architectural Association School of Architecture em Londres (2015) e, em seguida, voltou à GSAPP como professor associado visitante de Projeto Urbano, no Departamento de Urban Design (2015-2016). Tem sido convidado como professor orientador do Workshop Internacional de Projeto na Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Marseille, com participações anuais desde 2014. Em 2017 foi selecionado como professor do Curso Intensivo na Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris-Malaquais onde também atua como membro do Conselho Científico do Laboratoire Infrastructure, Architecture et Territoire (LIAT) e co-orienta teses de doutorado em co-tutela de estudantes da Université Paris-Est. Em 2018 foi professor convidado para avaliação dos Projetos Finais do Curso de Arquitetura da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Perú (PUCP) em Lima. Mais recentemente, tornou-se professor visitante de Teoria e Prática da Concepção Arquitetônica (Théories et Pratiques de la Conception Architecturale) na Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris-Val de Seine (2020 e 2022). Entre suas publicações, coeditou a série Leituras em Teoria da Arquitetura (2009-2014) e é coautor de Rio Metropolitano: guia para uma arquitetura (2013) e Cidade Pós-compacta: estratégias de projeto a partir de Brasília (2021), todas premiadas em diversos fóruns nacionais e internacionais. Como arquiteto e urbanista, trabalhou com Paul Chemetov e Borja Huidobro em Paris, Barto & Barto em Nantes e no Groupe Cooperative Architecture em Toulouse, tendo sido co-fundador do Atelier Arquilab da FAU-UFRJ onde orienta e desenvolve projetos de interesse público desde 2006. Obteve seu diploma de arquiteto DPLG (Diplômé par le Gouvernement) na Ecole d'Architecture de Toulouse (1992). É doutor em Ciências da Arquitetura pela Universidade de Nantes onde obteve seu título com a mais alta distinção (1998).
