In this article the central question will be to understand how it came to building and fixing the image of Bahiana Samba School character as a symbol of carnival in Rio and Brazil in the first decades of the twentieth century. The study of the Bahian popular show and procedures related to it deserves a raise and research in art and popular culture in Brazil. The proposition is to demonstrate the significance of dynamic visual elements that defined the image of Bahia, from the second half of the eighteenth century by recognizing the visual signs made on their costumes, the set of influences ranging dialogue with the plurality and diversity of cultural conventions, considering the process of modern events, a reflection in the construction of permanent representation of broad national significance
Nossa questão central é compreender como se deu a formação e consagração da imagem da baiana de escola de samba como personagem-símbolo do carnaval carioca e brasileiro nas primeiras décadas do século XX. O estudo da baiana no espetáculo popular é base para uma investigação no campo da cultura popular brasileira. Buscamos discutir a dinâmica de significação dos elementos visuais que definiram a imagem da baiana a partir da segunda metade do século XVIII, reconhecendo, por meio dos signos visuais constituídos em seu figurino, o jogo de influências que vão dialogar com a pluralidade e diversidade das convenções culturais, considerando o processo dos eventos modernos, um reflexo permanente nas construções dessa representação de amplo significado nacional
