Kaiser Gonçalves de Souza

KAISER GONÇALVES DE SOUZA is a geologist graduated at the University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos UNISINOS, Brazil (1983), Master in Geotectonics of the Continents and Oceans (1985) and Ph.D. in marine geology from the University of Paris, France (1991). Completed post-doctorate in the field of marine geology and geophysics at the Federal Institute of Geosciences and Natural Resources, in Hanover - Germany (1993). He participate in a training programme in marine mineral resources exploitation sponsored by the Preparatory Commission of the International Seabed Authority (United Nations) (1994) and specialized in matters relating to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (1996). He served as expert in marine natural resources in the Ministry of Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Inter-ministry Commission for the Resources of the Sea, Brazil (1995-1997). Worked as a Marine Geologist at the International Seabed Authority, Jamaica (1997-2004), where he contributed to the development the sustainable exploitation of marine mineral resources located in areas beyond national jurisdiction. He served as Head of the Division of Marine Geology at the Geological Survey of Brazil (2005 - 2013), where his main responsibilities were focused on the implementation of the Program for the Assessment of Mineral Resources of the Brazilian Continental Shelf (REMPLAC) and the Programme for Prospecting and Exploration of Mineral Resources of the International Seabed Area in the South and Equatorial Atlantic Ocean (PROAREA). He acted as Member of the Legal and Technical Commission of the International Seabed Authority (January 2012 to October 2013).He is Director at the International Marine Mineral Society (IMMS) (since 2010) and Member of the Legal and Technical Commission of the International Seabed Authority (since 2012).From 2013 he works as independent consultant on its own Company, the Oceanis International Mineral (www.oceanismineral.com.br), where his main focus is the sustainable exploitation of marine seabed mineral resources located in areas under national and international jurisdictions. Currently his company provides consulting services to private companies, governmental agencies and international organizations.His technical production includes 55 reports and papers published in journals and magazines in Brazil and abroad, in addition to one book and two chapters in edited books. He participated in almost 100 national and international scientific meetings, conferences and workshops related to sustainable prospecting, exploration and exploitation of marine mineral resources.

KAISER GONÇALVES DE SOUZA é geólogo formado na Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos - Unisinos (1983), mestre em Geotectônica dos Continentes e dos Oceanos (1985) e doutor em geologia marinha pela Universidade de Paris VI (1991). Concluiu o pós-doutorado na área de geofísica marinha no Instituto de Geociências e Recursos Naturais em Hannover - Alemanha (1993). Fez treinamento em exploração de recursos minerais marinhos patrocinado pela Comissão Preparatória da Autoridade Internacional dos Fundos Marinhos e do Tribunal Internacional das Leis do Mar - Nações Unidas e especializou-se em assuntos relativos à Convenção das Nações Unidas sobre o Direito do Mar (1994). Atuou como especialista em recursos do mar no Ministério da Ciência e Tecnologia em colaboração com a Comissão Interministerial de Recursos do Mar (1995-1997). Trabalhou como Geólogo Marinho na Autoridade Internacional dos Fundos Marinhos - Nações Unidas, na Jamaica (1997-2004), onde contribuiu para o desenvolvimento de atividades visando o aproveitamento de recursos minerais marinhos localizados em áreas oceânicas além das jurisdições nacionais. Exerceu a função de Chefe da Divisão de Geologia Marinha, no Serviço Geológico do Brasil (CPRM) (2005-2012), onde sua principal atuação foi na implementação do Programa de Avaliação da Potencialidade Mineral da Plataforma Continental Jurídica Brasileira (REMPLAC) e do Programa de Prospecção e Exploração de recursos Minerais da Área Internacional do Atlântico Sul e Equatorial (PROAREA). Atuou como Membro da Comissão Jurídica e Técnica da Autoridade Internacional dos Fundos Marinhos (2012-2013). Desde 2010 faz parte da Diretoria da International Marine Mineral Society - IMMS. A partir de 2013 atua como consultor independente em sua Empresa de Consultoria, a Oceanis Mineral International (www.oceanismineral.com.br), cujo o principal foco é a pesquisa e a exploração sustentável de recursos minerais marinhos situados em áreas sob a jurisdição nacional e internacional. Atualmente presta consultoria para empresas privadas, órgão governamentais e organismos internacionais.
