Possui graduação em Matemática pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, com licenciatura curta (Convênio PREMEN/MEC/UFRGS) em 1974, licenciatura plena em 1977 e bacharelado em 1979. Especialização em "Formação de Pesquisadores" pela PUCRS em 1984. Pós Graduação pela UFSC (Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina) com mestrado em Engenharia de Produção (Pesquisa Operacional) em 1991 e doutorado em Engenharia de Produção (Inteligência Artificial) em 1999. Fez Doutorado Sanduíche no Departamento de Engenharia Industrial da USF (University of South Florida) em 1993/94. É professor titular aposentado (20 horas) do Instituto de Matemática e Estatística da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul e professor titular (30 horas) da Escola Politécnica da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul. É professor permanente do PPGEDUCEM (Programa de Pós Graduação Mestrado em Educação em Matemática e Ciências). É parecerista do Grupo A editora, tradutor e revisor técnico de obras da área de Ciências Sociais e Exatas. Tem experiência nas áreas de Estatística, Probabilidade, Pesquisa Operacional, Metodologia da Pesquisa e História da Estatística e da Probabilidade. Atua nas linhas de pesquisa: Ensino de Estatística, Probabilidade e Matemática, História da Estatística e da Probabilidade, Ensino com Recursos Computacionais, Ensino de Estatística e Probabilidade com a Planilha.
