BA in Linguistics from the University of Reading (1977), MA in Applied Linguistics froms from the Catholic University of São Paulo (1984), PhD. in Communication Studies and Semiotics from the Catholic University of São Paulo (1992) and Livre-Docência from the University of São Paulo (2006). He is Full Professor of English in the Modern Languages Dept. of the University of São Paulo. Has been Visiting Professor at the Universities of Western Ontario (2004, 2019), Monash (2010), Oulu (2011), Goa (2012) and the University of the Western Cape (2018, 2019). Has experience in research, teaching and publications in Language Studies focusing on the areas of Critical Pedagogy, literacies, critical literacy, applied linguistics, decolonial and postcolonial theory and teacher education.
Possui graduação em Linguistica - University of Reading (1977), mestrado em Lingüística Aplicada e Estudos da Linguagem pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (1984) e doutorado em Comunicação e Semiótica pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (1992). Atualmente é professor titular sênior da Universidade de São Paulo. Tem experiência na área de Lingüística, com ênfase em Lingüística Aplicada, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: ensino-aprendizagem, linguistica aplicada, lingua estrangeira, letramento e teorias críticas.
