Marco Ribeiro Henriques

Marco Ribeiro Henriques is a PhD student and researcher at the Faculty of Law of Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Lisbon) in the fields of Law and Human Rights. The main focus of his research is the condition of imprisoned women and its relation with 21st century democracy, as well as prison studies in general. He holds a BA in Law and postgraduate degrees in Human Rights and Economic and European Criminal Law, both from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra. He also holds an MA in Law, specializing in Legal and Procedural Sciences, from the Universidade Portucalense Infante D. Henrique, in Oporto. Marco Ribeiro Henriques is a researcher at the Portucalense Institute for Legal Research (IJP), in Oporto, as well as a member of the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies, in London. He has just become an affiliate member of the Children of Prisoners Europe consortium (COPE) ? funded by The Bernard van Leer Foundation and the EC ? acting as a researcher in several international projects. He coordinates the Amnesty International jurist group and is a pro bono rapporteur at the Portuguese Human Rights Observatory. He also acts as a trial observer to the American Bar Association. He is the author and co-author of various scientific publications, namely articles and book chapters on Human Rights, Legal and Criminal Sciences, the prison system, as well as political science. Some of those articles have been published in indexed journals from such countries as Portugal, Brazil, France, Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Romania, and Slovenia. He is a regular collaborator in several transnational research projects funded by the European Council. His latest achievement was the following project: "Dimensions of Evidence in European Civil Procedure", implemented in December 2015 by the Faculty of Law of the University of Maribor, in Slovenia. He has participated in several conferences, seminars and symposia in his field of research, both as a speaker and organizer.
