Paulo Alexandre Costa Rocha

I hold a Master's degree in Civil Engineering (Water Resources) from the Federal University of Ceará (1999) and a Doctorate in Civil Engineering (Water Resources) from the Federal University of Ceará (2006). (Magna Cum Laude) in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Ceará (1995). I had, by the "Foreign Visiting Professor" CAPES program, a Sabbatical at the University of California San Diego, under the supervision of Prof. Carlos F. M. Coimbra, Ph. D (http://coimbra.ucsd.edu/). I am under my second Sabbatical (2022-) in a joint project between the University of Guelph and the University of Waterloo, Canadá, under the supervision of Prof. Jesse Van Griensven (https://uwaterloo.ca/mechanical-mechatronics-engineering/profile/jthe) and Prof. Bahram Gharabaghi (https://www.uoguelph.ca/engineering/bgharabaghi).. I have experience in Fluid Mechanics (Engineering Flows Modeling) and Solar Thermal Energy (Solar and Heliothermal Systems), with emphasis on Renewable Energy Systems, working mainly in the following subjects: Study of heliothermic plants, numerical solution of flows over immersed bodies, aerodynamics of wind systems, solar collectors, solar tracking. Coadvisor of the 2nd. Place of the XXVII YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD - Category "Higher Education Student", CNPq (2013). I was coordinator of the Undergraduate Program in Mechanical Engineering in the biennium 2011-2013, as well as coordinator of the Graduate Program in Mechanical Engineering for the bienniums 2013-2015 and 2015-2017. I am currently Associate Professor IV of the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Federal University of Ceará. I was Scientific Director of IX CONEM-2016 and Member of the Local Organizing Comitee of VII CBENS-2020. I review articles for high impact factor journals, like Applied Energy, Solar Energy, Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, Energy Conversion and Management, Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews, Desalination, Journal of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering, among others. Regarding editorial activities, I am Guest Editor of MDPI Atmosphere Journal for the Special Issue "Solar Irradiance and Wind Forecasting".

Possui graduação (Magna Cum Laude) em Engenharia Química pela Universidade Federal do Ceará (1995), mestrado em Engenharia Civil (Recursos Hídricos) pela Universidade Federal do Ceará (1999) e doutorado em Engenharia Civil (Recursos Hídricos) pela Universidade Federal do Ceará (2006). Realizou, através do "Programa de Professor Visitante no Exterior" da CAPES, estágio pós-doutoral na University of California San Diego, sob a supervisão do Prof. Carlos F. M. Coimbra, Ph. D (http://coimbra.ucsd.edu/). Está realizando seu segundo estágio pós-doutoral (2022-) em um projeto conjunto entre a Universidade de Guelph e de Waterloo, Canadá, sob a supervisão dos Profs. Jesse Van Griensven (https://uwaterloo.ca/mechanical-mechatronics-engineering/profile/jthe) e Bahram Gharabaghi (https://www.uoguelph.ca/engineering/bgharabaghi). Tem experiência na área de Mecânica dos Fluidos (Modelagem de Escoamentos em Engenharia) e Energia Solar Térmica (Sistemas de Aproveitamento de Energia Solar e Heliotérmicas), com ênfase em Sistemas para Energias Renováveis, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Estudo de usinas heliotérmicas, solução numérica de escoamentos sobre corpos imersos, aerodinâmica de sistemas eólicos, coletores solares, rastreamento solar. Coorientador do 2o. Lugar do XXVII PRÊMIO JOVEM CIENTISTA - Categoria "Estudante de Ensino Superior", CNPq (2013). Foi coordenador do curso de graduação em Engenharia Mecânica no biênio 2011-2013, bem como coordenador do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia Mecânica para os biênios 2013-2015 e 2015-2017. Atualmente é Professor Associado IV do Departamento de Engenharia Mecânica da Universidade Federal do Ceará. Foi Diretor Científico do IX CONEM-2016 e da Comissão Organizadora Local do VII CBENS-2020. Atua como revisor de diversas revistas de alto fator de impacto, como Energy (Oxford), Applied Energy, Solar Energy, Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, Energy Conversion and Management, Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews, Desalination, Journal of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering, entre outras. Como atividade editorial, é Editor Convidado da Revista Atmosphere (MDPI) para o Volume Especial "Solar Irradiance and Wind Forecasting".
