Desde 2019 é Pesquisador Voluntário Sênior do Grupo de Química de Produtos Naturais na FIOCRUZ-MINAS (Instituto René Rachou), participando de um PROJETO DE EXTENSÃO viabilizado por um Acordo de Cooperação entre a FIOCRUZ e a Prefeitura Municipal de Conceição da Barra - ES. O acordo permitiu a instalação de um Laboratório de Química de Produtos Naturais no município que tem por missão a pesquisa e extensão voltadas para o LETRAMENTO CIENTÍFICO de alunos do ensino fundamental e médio no município. Graduado em Farmácia e Bioquímica (1979) pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, obteve o título de Doutor em Química na mesma Instituição em 1988. Atuou como bolsista pós-doc na FIOCRUZ-MINAS de 1989 a 1995, implantando a linha de pesquisa em química de produtos naturais na instituição. Aprovado em concurso público, foi servidor da FIOCRUZ de 1996 a 2018 atuando como Lider do Grupo de Química de Produtos Naturais Bioativos. No quadriênio 2009-2012 atuou como Vice-Diretor de Gestão e Desenvolvimento Institucional da FIOCRUZ-MINAS. Durante a carreira realizou vários estágios no exterior: Universidade de Waterloo (Canadá), grupo do Prof. Victor Snieckus (1987); Faculdade de Farmácia de Lausanne (Suíça), no grupo do Prof. Kurt Hostettmann (1991); Glaxo Wellcome Trust Research Center (Escócia) no grupo do Prof. Alan Fairlamb (2001 e 2002). Serono Pharmaceutical Research Institute (Suíça), no grupo de ensaios de alto fluxo (2004). Griffith University/Eskites Institute (Austrália) no grupo do Prof. Anthony A. Carroll (2014). Tem experiência na área de química dos produtos naturais, tendo publicado 136 artigos científicos e 9 capítulos de livros indexados. Orientou cerca de 50 alunos e pesquisadores em projetos de iniciação científica, doutorado e pós-doutorado abordando os seguintes temas: química substâncias bioativas presentes em plantas e fungos, bioprospecção e síntese orgânica. É bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa do CNPq com bolsa aprovada para o período 2022-2025. Since 2019, has been a Senior Volunteer Researcher at the Natural Products Chemistry Group at FIOCRUZ-MINAS (Instituto René Rachou), participating in an EXTENSION PROJECT made possible by a Cooperation Agreement between FIOCRUZ and the Municipality of Conceição da Barra-ES, Brazil. The agreement allowed for the installation of a Laboratory of Chemistry of Natural Products in the municipality, whose mission is conduct research and extension activities aimed at SCIENTIFIC LITERACY of elementary and high school students in the municipality. Graduated in Pharmacy and Biochemistry (1979) from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, obtained the title of Doctor in Chemistry at the same institution in 1988. Worked as a post-doc fellow at FIOCRUZ-MINAS from 1989 to 1995, implementing the line of research in chemistry of natural products in the institution. Approved in a public tender, worked as researcher in FIOCRUZ from 1996 to 2018, acting as Head of the Group ?Chemistry of Bioactive Natural Products". In the four-year period 2009-2012, served as Vice-Director of Management and Institutional Development at FIOCRUZ-MINAS. During the career, carried out several internships abroad: University of Waterloo (Canada), with Prof. Victor Snieckus (1987); Faculty of Pharmacy of Lausanne (Switzerland), in the group of Prof. Kurt Hostettmann (1991); Glaxo Wellcome Trust Research Center (Scotland) in the group of Prof. Alan Fairlamb (2001 and 2002); Serono Pharmaceutical Research Institute (Switzerland), in the HTS group (2004), Griffith University/Eskites Institute (Australia) in the group of Prof. Anthony A. Carroll (2014). He has experience in the chemistry of natural products, having published 136 scientific articles in peer reviewed journals and 9 book chapters. He supervised around 50 students and researchers in scientific initiation, doctoral and post-doctoral projects covering the following topics: chemistry, bioactive substances present in plants and fungi, bioprospecting and organic synthesis.
