Rafael Faermann Korman

Rafael Faermann Korman is PhD in Education at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil (PUCRS) with a sandwich doctorate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, being the first certified educator in Latin America in the Data Wise Project, which helps educators in more than 150 countries to work with assessment evidence to improve students' teaching and learning. Rafael has always been passionate about education and fascinated by understanding why and how people learn. He started as an assistant professor of mathematics and graduated in Production Engineering at UFRGS, followed by his master's thesis on curriculum reform in Engineering Education at the same institution.Rafael also worked as Project Manager at Colégio Israelita, a school of Early Childhood Education to High School in Porto Alegre, Brazil, where he is now administrative-pedagogical coordinator of High School (since 2019) leading the implementation of the new Common National Curriculum Base (BNCC). Rafael is co-founder and director of Autonomy, an organization focused on the development of students' autonomy in learning, through the habit of study, scientific initiation, and autonomy of teachers through workshops and lectures. Among other achievements, Rafael works as an "engineer of learning" at Factum College, where for 5 years he has applied Problem-Based Learning and Team-Based Learning in a curricular manner.Rafael also developed innovative projects, such as the "Project Management Office inside the school", which received 1st place in the Brazilian National Education Management Award in 2018, and several other teacher training workshops on active learning, data-driven decision making, and project management for educators. In 2020 and2021, Rafael has led professional online learning for 5 technical schoolsin partnership with the Chilean government and 20 publicschools in Brazil, implementing Data Wise for the first time in these two countries. In 2022, for the first time, the municipality of Encantado (RS) and the municipality of Porto Alegre (RS) adopt Data Wise as a pedagogical project throughout the municipal network, together with the municipal departments of education. Overall, Rafael believes that any organizational culture can be changed when all people are heard and committed to the same cause: that every child and every educator is able to learn.

Rafael é cofundador e diretor daAutonomia, uma organização focada nodesenvolvimento da autonomiados alunos na aprendizagem, através dohábito de estudo, dainiciação científicae autonomia dos professorespor meio de oficinas e palestras. Dentro de outras realizações, Rafael atua como engenheiro de aprendizagens na Faculdade Factum, onde há 5 anos aplica o PBL e TBL de maneira curricular. Rafael também desenvolveuprojetos inovadores, como o "Escritório de Gerenciamento de Projetos Dentro da Escola", que recebeu1º lugar no Prêmio Nacional de Gestão da Educação em 2018,e outros vários workshops de formação de professores sobre aprendizagem ativa, tomada de decisão orientada por dados e gerenciamento de projetos para educadores. Em 2020 e 2021, Rafael liderou a aprendizagem online profissional para 5 escolas técnicas em parceria com o governo chileno e 20 escolas públicas no Brasil, implementando o Data Wise pela primeira vez nesses dois países. Em 2022, pela primeira vez, o município de Encantado (RS) e o município de Porto Alegre (RS) adotam o Data Wise como projeto pedagógico em toda a rede municipal, em conjunto com as secretarias municipais de educação. Rafael acredita que qualquercultura organizacionalpode ser alterada quando todas as pessoassão ouvidase comprometidas com a mesma causa: quecada criança e cada educador são capazes de aprender.
