Possui Bacharelado e Licenciatura em Matemática pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), mestrado em Matemática pela UFMG e doutorado em Educação Matemática pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho, UNESP, Rio Claro. Realizou estágio de pós-doutorado na Universidade de Lisboa. É Professora Titular do Departamento de Matemática da UFMG e docente do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação da Faculdade de Educação da UFMG. Foi coordenadora do Grupo de Trabalho (GT) de Modelagem Matemática da Sociedade Brasileira de Educação Matemática (SBEM), no triênio 2015-2018. Atuou como co-chair do Topic Study Group (TSG) Mathematical applications and modelling in the teaching and learning of mathematics, do International Congress on Mathematical Education (ICME). Foi membro do Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa da UFMG. É coordenadora do grupo Coletivo Crítico: Perspectivas Sociopolíticas e Críticas em Pesquisas e Práticas Pedagógicas em Educação Matemática. Tem experiência na área de Educação Matemática, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: modelagem matemática, educação matemática crítica e teoria da atividade.
She is graduated in Mathematics from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), holds a master's degree in Mathematics from UFMG and a doctorate in Mathematics Education from Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho, UNESP, Rio Claro. She did a postdoctoral internship at the University of Lisbon. She is a Full Professor at the Mathematics Department at UFMG and a professor at the Graduate Program in Education at the Faculty of Education at UFMG. She was coordinator of the Mathematical Modelling Working Group (GT) of the Brazilian Society of Mathematical Education (SBEM), in the 2015-2018 triennium. She served as co-chair of the Topic Study Group (TSG) Mathematical applications and modelling in the teaching and learning of mathematics, of the International Congress on Mathematical Education (ICME). She was a member of the Research Ethics Committee at UFMG and is the coordinator of the group Coletivo Crítico: Perspectivas Sociopolíticas e Críticas em Pesquisas e Práticas Pedagógicas em Educação Matemática. She has experience in the area of Mathematical Education, acting mainly on the following topics: mathematical modelling, critical mathematical education and activity theory.
