Dr Luciano Pezzi has a degree in Meteorology from UFPel (1989), a master's degree in Remote Sensing from UFRGS (1993) and a PhD in Physical Oceanography from the University of Southampton - School of Ocean and Earth Sciences (2003). He is currently a Researcher, linked to the General Coordination of Earth Observation (OBT) of INPE. In 2011 and 2012 he held a postdoctoral fellowship at the USP Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (IAG) and in 2016 at the SCRIPPS Institute of Oceanography (SIO) of the University of California San Diego (UCSD). He also holds the title of "Honorary Hydrographer" of the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation (DHN) of the Brazilian Navy. He also works as a permanent teacher in the Post-Graduation Programs, in Remote Sensing (PGSER) of OBT and in Meteorology (PGMet) of the Center for Weather Forecasting and Climate Studies (CPTEC), both from INPE. He was Substitute Head of the OBT / INPE Remote Sensing Division (DSR) from 2013 to 2015 and the INPE Antarctic Program (PAN) from 2007 to date. He currently coordinates the Laboratory of Ocean and Atmospheric Studies (LOA / OBT / INPE). At the international level, he served as a Distinguished Expert for the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Implementation Working Group in 2015. He is a member of the SOFLUX task team, which is a working group of the Southern Ocean Observing System (SOOS). He is the current INPE representative with the "Regional Alliance on Oceanography for the Upper and Tropical Southwest Atlantic (OCEATLAN)". He mainly works on the following topics: Ocean-Atmosphere Interaction, Regional and Global Coupled Modeling, Seasonal Climatic Forecasting, Observational and Numerical Studies of Climate, Tropical Oceanography and South Atlantic Oceanography, having published several articles in specialized periodicals and annals of events. He was Assistant Editor of the Brazilian Journal of Meteorology (RBMet) from 2008 to 2016.
Sou Meteorologista (UFPel), mestre em Sensoriamento Remoto (UFRGS) e Ph.D. em Oceanografia Física pela University of Southampton (UK, 2003). Este ano completo 30 anos de INPE, como Pesquisador Titular. Pertenço a Divisão de Observação da Terra e Geoinformática (DIOTG) da Coordenação-Geral de Ciências da Terra (CGCT). Publiquei 88 trabalhos científicos com peer review (ORCID), e apresentei mais de 42 artigos em conferências científicas internacionais. Tenho 1919 citações de meus trabalhos no Research Gate, com índice H-24. Tenho 2032 citações no Google Scholar, com índice H-23. Tenho 850 citações no Web of Science, com índice H-17. Publiquei 4 trabalhos em revistas do grupo Nature. A qualidade das minhas publicações pode ser verificada pelo Qualis CAPES, do total de 64 artigos (indexados) no meu Lattes, 86 deles foram em revistas Qualis A, sendo que 70 deles são em Qualis A1 e A2, e 51 em Qualis A1. Recebi os títulos de Hidrógrafo Honorário (2012) e Amigo da Marinha (2021), da Marinha do Brasil. Sou docente permanente nos programas de pós-graduação em Sensoriamento Remoto (PGSER) e em Meteorologia (PGMet), ambos do INPE. Fui Chefe Substituto da Divisão de Sensoriamento Remoto (OBT/INPE) de 2013 a 2015 e do Projeto Antártico (2007-2018) do INPE. Atualmente coordeno o Laboratório de Estudos do Oceano e da Atmosfera (LOA/CGCT/INPE). No âmbito internacional sou membro titular do Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) do Southern Ocean Observing System (SOOS). Represento (ex-officio) o SOOS no Southern Ocean Regional Panel (SORP) do CLIVAR/Clic/SCAR. Fui membro do task team Southern Ocean Fluxes (SOFLUX/SOOS). Atuei no Group on Earth Observations (GEO), em 2015. Represento o INPE na "Aliança Regional en Oceanografia para el Atlántico Sudoccidental Superior y Tropical (OCEATLAN)". Sou membro do comitê científico do modelo do sistema terrestre brasileiro, o Model for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Prediction (MONAN) e co-lidero o Grupo de Oceanos e Criosfera do MONAN. Liderei e ainda lidero vários projetos científicos com financiamento do CNPq, CAPES, FINEP, fundos privados e fui Pesquisador Responsável em cruzeiros oceanográficos a bordo de navios. Sou assessor ad-hoc da FAPESP, CNPq, CAPES, NSF e revisor de várias revistas científicas nacionais e internacionais. Ao longo da carreira ministrei seminários em universidades do Brasil e do exterior, e aulas inaugurais em PPGs. Me comuniquei com a sociedade também através de documentários sobre a Antártica e concedi ao longo de minha carreira várias entrevistas em rádios, jornais, canais web e televisão.
