Panmela Silva e Castro

Panmela Castro is an anti-racist artist and intellectual feminist activist from Rio de Janeiro dedicated for the end of gender-based violence. Her artwork has been shown in museums in the world and is featured in important collections challenging the sexist logic of power in the traditional artworld. Graduation at Bachelor of Arts - painting degree from Escola de Belas Artes - UFRJ (2007), master's at Arts from UERJ (2013), and currently attending a post-graduate in Human Rights, Social Responsibility and Global Citizenship from PUC-RS. As a survivor of domestic violence, Panmela has dedicated the past 20 years of her career to raising awareness on women?s rights through art, art education and public graffiti mural projects. She founded Rede NAMI, an arts organization that has directly impacted the lives of more than 10,000 women, particularly women of color, in Brazil. Panmela Castro é uma artista antirracista, intelectual e ativista feminista carioca que se dedica ao fim da violência gênero. Sua obra já foi exposta em museus de todo o mundo e faz parte de importantes coleções que mudam a lógica sexista do poder no mundo da arte tradicional. Possui graduação em Bacharelado em Artes Plásticas - Pintura pela Escola de Belas Artes - UFRJ (2007), mestrado em Artes pela UERJ (2013), cursando Pós-Graduação Lato-Sensu em Direitos Humanos, Responsabilidade Social e Cidadania Global pela PUC-RS. Sobrevivente de violência doméstica, Panmela desenvolve há quase 20 anos, projetos de arte, arte-educação e murais públicos de grafite para conscientizar sobre os direitos das mulheres, especialmente por meio da Rede NAMI, organização fundada por ela e que teve impacto direto na vida de mais de 10.000 mulheres, principalmente mulheres negras, no Brasil. O trabalho de Panmela promove mudanças estruturais na sociedade, trazendo o conhecimento por meio da arte e da comunicação para que meninas e mulheres saibam como lutar por seus direitos.
