He holds a degree in Letters from the Universidade do Contestado, a master's degree in Applied Linguistics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul and a PhD in Letters from the same university. He currently works as a permanent researcher in the Letters and Master's and Doctoral courses in Linguistics at the State University of Southwest Bahia. He is a member of the organization team of the International Literacy Journey, a traditional event for the dissemination of studies in the area of initial teaching of Portuguese as a mother tongue. He is editor-in-chief of the Lingua Nostra Magazine. It coordinates the Program for Monitoring Learning and continuing education of teachers in the literacy cycle of municipal education, where, in interaction with teaching and research activities, it develops in partnership with literacy teachers practices and tools for the literacy cycle with promising results until the moment, which serve as a reference for adjacent municipalities with similar socioeconomic characteristics. Scientific production is organized within the Research Group on Typical and Atypical Initial Teaching and Learning of Reading and Writing, at the moment, focusing on the identification of linguistic, cognitive and psychosocial learning predictors; initial acquisition and learning in typical and atypical contexts; cognitive processing of reading and writing; reading comprehension; technology applied to education.
É graduado em Letras pela Universidade do Contestado, é mestre em Linguística Aplicada pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul e doutor em Letras pela mesma universidade. Atualmente atua como pesquisador permanente nos cursos de Letras e de mestrado e doutorado em Linguística da Universidade Estadual do Sudoeste da Bahia. É membro da equipe de organização da Jornada Internacional de Alfabetização, evento tradicional de divulgação de estudo na área do ensino inicial de Língua Portuguesa como língua materna. É editor-chefe da Revista Língua Nostra. Coordena o Programa de Monitoramento do aprendizado e de formação continuada de docentes do ciclo da alfabetização de ensino municipal, onde, em interação com atividades de ensino e pesquisa, desenvolve em parceria com docentes alfabetizadores práticas e ferramentas para o ciclo da alfabetização com resultados promissores até o momento, as quais servem de referência para municípios adjacentes com características socioeconômicas similares. A produção científica é organizada no âmbito do Grupo de Pesquisa em Ensino e Aprendizado Inicial Típico e Atípico da Leitura e da Escrita, no momento, com foco na identificação de preditores linguísticos, cognitivos e psicossociais de aprendizado; aquisição e aprendizado inicial em contexto típico e atípico; processamento cognitivo da leitura e da escrita; compreensão leitora; tecnologia aplicada à educação.
