Este trabalho propõe-se a abordar a formação universitária em Biblioteconomia e as possíveis tensões entre a ênfase nas tecnologias e as subjetividades/complexidades da sociedade contemporânea. Assim, este estudo tem como objetivo analisar a relação entre a atuação social do bibliotecário e sua formação universitária. Para isso, pretende-se: discutir o papel do bibliotecário na sociedade; verificar que fatores podem contribuir para a atuação social do bibliotecário; conhecer as concepções da formação do bibliotecário para os profissionais que desenvolvem uma atuação profissional voltada para a vertente social da área; discutir os dispositivos pedagógicos que estão ou deveriam estar presentes na formação universitária do bibliotecário que auxiliem no desenvolvimento de uma atuação social. O trabalho consiste em um estudo qualitativo descritivo, utilizando como instrumento a entrevista individual com perguntas abertas de bibliotecários brasileiros, atualmente ativos e engajados em projetos ou iniciativas de atuação social. A partir das experiências relatadas pelos informantes, foi possível identificar alguns pontos do curso de graduação que os ajudaram a desempenhar as funções que têm hoje, assim como alguns elementos que os informantes sentiram falta no curso ao começarem a trabalhar na área. É possível também perceber que todos os informantes já tinham uma motivação anterior à graduação para trabalhar com essa abordagem, o que os levou a procurar o que a faculdade oferecia para essa atuação, nem sempre dentro do curso de Biblioteconomia
This study aims to address the higher education in Librarianship and the possible tensions between the technological emphasis and subjectivities/ complexities of contemporary society. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the social role of the librarian and his university education. For this, it is intended to: discuss the librarian's role in society; check which factors may contribute to the social role of the librarian; know the concepts of librarian education for professionals who develop a professional activity focused on the social aspects of the area; discuss pedagogical devices that are or should be present in the education of the librarian to assist in developing a social action. The work consists of a descriptive qualitative study using as instrument individual interviews with open questions of Brazilian librarians, currently active and engaged in projects or initiatives of social action. From the experiences reported by informants, it was possible to identify some points of the courses that helped them carry out the functions they have nowadays, as well as some elements that informants have missed on starting work in the area. It can also be noticed that all informants already had a previous motivation to work with this approach of the area before entering the graduation course, which led them to look for what college had to offer for this work, not always within the Librarianship course
