PATRICIA MACHADO BUENO FERNANDES completed her Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and Princeton University, USA, in 1997, where she also held a post-doctoral degree in 2011. She worked at the Scripps Clinic & Research Foundation, USA, between 1990-1992 . Since 1999 she has been at the Federal University of Espírito Santo-UFES, beeing now Full Professor and President of the Internal Biosafety Commission (CIBio). In 2016 she was on a sabbatical at the Catholic University of Leuven (KU-Leuven), Belgium, and in 2020 at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography at the University of California in San Diego, USA. She was a member of the National Technical Biosafety Commission (CTNBio) of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation from its new installation in 2005 until October 2020. In 2021, she joined the Scientific Advisory Committee and the Biotechnology Task Force of the International Life Sciences Institute - ILSI. She has published articles in international specialized journals, works in event proceedings and also book chapters. She organized events in Brazil, in addition to participating in several national and international events as a speaker or moderator. She supervises PhDs in post-doctoral internships and advises doctoral, master's and scientific initiation students in the areas of Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She works in the field of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, with an emphasis on stress response in yeast and plants.
PATRICIA MACHADO BUENO FERNANDES concluiu o doutorado em Bioquímica pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro e Universidade de Princeton, EUA, em 1997, onde também realizou o pós-doutoramento em 2011. Trabalhou no Scripps Clinic & Research Foundation, EUA, entre 1990-1992. Desde 1999 é professora da Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo - UFES, onde atualmente é Professora Titular e Presidente da Comissão Interna de Biossegurança (CIBio). Em 2016 esteve em um período sabático na Universidade Católica de Leuven (KU-Leuven), Bélgica, e em 2020 no Instituto de Oceanografia da Universidade da Califórnia em San Diego, EUA. Foi membro da Comissão Técnica Nacional de Biossegurança (CTNBio) do Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação desde a sua nova instalação em 2005 até outubro de 2020. Em 2021 passou a integrar o Comitê Científico Consultor e a Força Tarefa de Biotecnologia do International Life Sciences Institute - ILSI. Tem publicado artigos em periódicos especializados internacionais, trabalhos em anais de eventos e também capítulos de livros. Organizou eventos no Brasil, além de participar de diversos eventos nacionais e internacionais como palestrante ou moderador. Supervisiona doutores em estágio de pós-doutoramento e orienta alunos de doutorado, mestrado e de iniciação cientifica nas áreas de Biotecnologia, Bioquímica e Biologia Molecular. Atua na área de Bioquímica e Biotecnologia, com ênfase em resposta a estresse em levedura e plantas.
