Sukarno Olavo Ferreira

Graduado em Física pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1983), mestre em Eletrônica e Telecomunicações-Semicondutores pelo Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (1986) e doutor em Física de Semicondutores - Johannes Kepler Universität-Linz (1995). Atualmente é Professor Titular na Universidade Federal de Viçosa. Atua na área de Física da Matéria Condensada, com ênfase em crescimento e caracterização de semicondutores, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: técnicas de crescimento epitaxial (HWE, MBE), nanoestruturas (poços e pontos quânticos) e caracterização de materiais (difração de raios-x, microscopia de força atômica).

Sukarno Olavo Ferreira received the Bachelor degree in Physics at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG, Brazil-1983), master of Science in Electronic and Telecomunication at the National Institute for Space Research (INPE, Brazil-1986) and the PhD at the Johannes Kepler Universität (JKU-Linz, Austria-1995). He worked at INPE for 10years and was visiting researcher at the National Laboratory for Syncrotron Radiation (LNLS) in Brazil. He is actually Full Professor at the Federal University of Viçosa (Brazil). He has published more than 100 papers with more than 1000 citations (h index 18; WoS).His main research area is the growth and characterization of semiconductor materials, working with epitaxial growth techniques (LPE, HWE and MBE), low dimensional heterostructures (quantum well and quantum dots), II-VI diluted magnetic semiconductors and the study of growth kinetics of thin films by dynamic scale and roughening theory. He is also interested in applying different experimental techniques like x-ray scattering (HRXRD, GID and XRR), electron microscopy (SEM, TEM) and scanning probe microscopy (AFM, MFM, KPM) in the characterization of new materials in multidisciplinary areas like green chemistry, catalysis, microbiology, food technology and others.
