A dissertação correlaciona narrativas específicas da produção política e literária de Jorge Amado ao debate de suas emendas constitucionais, concernentes à liberdade religiosa, apresentadas na Constituinte de 1946. A partir de tais relações, objetiva-se ressignificar o sentido dos limites historicamente definidos à liberdade de culto religioso, no caso das religiões de matriz afro-brasileira. À luz da liberdade de consciência, examina-se um conflito de concepções que limitam a compreensão das garantias ao livre exercício da fé. Entre política e literatura, atributos do engajamento literário são aplicados para o desvendamento dos principais pontos abordados. Justifica-se a atualidade do eixo temático de fronteira pelo aumento significativo dos casos de intolerância à liberdade de culto no país. A metodologia adotada é predominantemente documental, pela análise dos atos do processo deliberativo constitucional, crônicas e jornais, dentre outros registros, com abordagem interdisciplinar. Avalia-se prospectivamente a discussão da tensão entre perspectivas religiosas e políticas. Os resultados de pesquisa procuram ser obtidos pela revisão crítica dos dados históricos.
The dissertation correlates specific narratives from Jorge Amado's polítical and literary production with the debate of its constitutional amendments, concerning freedom of religion, presented in the Constituent Assembly of 1946. From such relations, it aims to re-signify the sense of the historically defined limits to freedom of religious worship, in the case of afro-brazilian religions. In the light of freedom of conscience, the research examines a conflict of views that limits the understanding of the guarantees to the free exercise of faith. Between politics and literature, attributes of literary engagement are applied to the unraveling of the main points addressed. The topicality of the thematic is justified by the significant increase in cases of intolerance of freedom of worship in the country. The methodology adopted is predominantly documentary, by analyzing the acts of the constitutional deliberative process, chronicles and newspapers, among other records, with an interdisciplinary approach. Discussion of the tension between religious and political perspectives is prospectively evaluated. The research results seek to be obtained by the critical review of historical data.
