Opressão, resistência e ativismo: o desafio da tradução de textos afro-descendentes em Quarto de despejo de Carolina Maria de Jesus, Lucy de Jamaica Kincaid e Passing de Nella Larsen

O principal objetivo desta tese é analisar como a representação da identidade afro-descendente se manifesta em Quarto de despejo da brasileira Carolina Maria de Jesus, Lucy da estadunidense Jamaica Kincaid e Passing da estadunidense Nella Larsen e em suas traduções a partir do viés intercultural dos Estudos de Tradução, para que possamos destacar aspectos importantes da literatura da diáspora africana no Brasil e nos Estados Unidos e das traduções das obras supracitadas e, enfim, propor uma tradução para a primeira parte do romance Passing de Nella Larsen buscando respeitar as características culturais da referida obra. Este trabalho também busca divulgar as obras das escritoras afrodescendentes e observar o lugar que elas ocupam e ocuparam no meio literário, nas sociedades em que foram inicialmente publicadas e nas sociedades onde foram traduzidas, de forma a destacar a importância da tradução para a sobrevivência e divulgação de obras literárias e dos escritores que as produziram em relação ao meio acadêmico e ao público leigo em geral.
This thesis aims at analyzing how the representation of the African descendant identity presents itself in Carolina Maria de Jesus´s Quarto de despejo, a Brazilian literary work, Jamaica Kincaid´s Lucy and Nella Larsen´s Passing, two American literary works, and its translations through Intercultural Studies theories related to the Translation Studies. This thesis also aims at underlining important aspects of the African diaspora literature in Brazil and in the United States, and the translations of these works and, in addition to this, suggesting a translation for the first part of Passing, Nella Larsen´s novel, trying to respect the cultural characteristics of this work. This work aims at promoting the works of the African descendant writers and noticing the space they have had in the literary world, in the societies where they were initially published, and in the societies where they were translated. This thesis seeks to highlight the importance of translation to the survival and promotion of literary works and its writers in relation to the Academy and the public in general.
